Paradise @Coco Bodu Hithi

There are these kind of places you can never get enough of. For me this place is Maldives, my ultimate favorite when it comes to beach destinations.

I have visited several atolls throughout the Maldives in the last 2 years and every island is different and has its own character and a different vibe.

So I was lucky to add another one to the collection and test another one recently for you which was the Coco Bodu Hithi belonging to the few older and traditional hotels in the Maldives located just 30 minutes away from the airport and easily accessible via boat.

The moment you step foot onto this island you feel the authentic Maldivian atmosphere. Everything is designed in darker wood colors and natural materials.

With 100 overwater villas spreading out on different areas of the atoll the island is of mid size and makes it fun to explore the different areas being not to small but still offering a private feeling.

We stayed in a coco residence overwater villa which was very spacious with living room, bedroom big terrace and outdoor pool. My favorite part of the room was the bathroom with removable windows and a huge bathtub facing the ocean perfect for romantic sunset baths.

There are 6 restaurants at Coco Bodu Hithi which gives great variety in testing a different restaurant every night and which is something you should consider when selecting your Maldives hotel.

You have Air, which offers regular buffet dinner meal plans with specialites from around the world. Then there is Aqua, a seafood restaurant over the water, Tsuki – offering Japanese sushi and sashimi delights at the top of Latitude bar, Breeze- a barbeque on the beach which takes place once a week, Stars – serving romantic world cuisine dinners and a la carte breakfasts with the best view. And finally the Wine Loft where you can get a set dining menu once per week and try through a wide selction of wines.

One of the big advantages of Coco Bodu Hithi is its own underwater coral world. We did an excursion with the hotel marine biologist to swim with huge mantas which was an incredible experience to be alone in the open ocean with them and to observe them in their natural environment.

The mantas usually spend their time around Coco Bodu Hithi coral reefs from January to april which is also high season so if you are planning your trip there during these months your chances are high to meet them 🙂

Another highlight was the turtle snorkeling tour. Just around the corner of Coco Bodu Hithi is a big coral reef with lots of giant turtles so during snorkeling around that day I made friends with 4 of them 🙂

Some hotels in Maldives don’t have their own coral garden and take trips far away to see turtles and special snorkeling reefs, so its definitely a plus that Coco Bodu Hithi is one of the hotels having the coral garden and also a dive station right in front of their door.

Coco Bodhu Hithi is the right hotel for all couples who like to spend their vacation in a relaxed atmosphere, appreciating the roots of traditional Maldivian origin in combination with water acitivities and a variety in dining 🙂

How to get there:

We flew with Condor airlines nonstop from Frankfurt to Male. From Male airport it’s a 30 minute boat ride to Coco Bodu Hithi

What not to miss:

  • snorkeling around the coral reefs with turtles and mantas
  • a relaxing massage in the Coco overwater Spa with that view. Yes, that kind of view you never forget 🙂
  • sandbank picnic on a secluded island. You can select the food you would like to have in advance, they prepare everything and leave you on the island for a few hours.
  • enjoy some delicious sushi and sashimi and the private atmosphere at Tsuki restaurant with only 5 tables
  • watch the sunrise from Stars overwater restaurant while having some delicious pancakes for breakfast.
