It was my first time doing a club kind of holiday since I was a little child and I have to admit yes, I was a bit sceptical. Usually I am not the biggest fan of the idea of spending days just at a hotel without stepping out and experiencing the country and culture.
Animation by the pool, screaming kids and people trying to convince you to take part in activities the world doesnt need, where sequences that came to my mind when I thought of the term „club holiday“.
Together with a friend we decided to give it a try and decided to test the Robinson Club Soma Bay in Egypt. We were welcomed at the airport by our driver and it was a 40 minute drive to our new home for the week.
The property was recently refurbished and has 327 new modern rooms with balcony. Breakfast, lunch and dinner are already included in the rate which is great to oversee costs of a holiday in advance. There are daily changing themes and evening entertainment such as shows, musicals or beach parties.
My favorite was the oriental night, where all guests found white galabeyas in their room to wear fort he beach dinner in oriental style.
I was also surpised at all the different sports activity Robinson Club offers from morning yoga, gym, pilates, scuba diving, spinning, outdoor activities, kite surfing, tennis, golf, zumba, new technology fitness, water gymnastics- the list is endless. Also there was no pushy animation as expected, so if you want to just lay by the pool and relax no one will bother you 🙂
Instead they have a daily changing activity and sports program that lies out at the reception and you just can just show up to the courses you are interested in. Robinson Club Soma Bay also has a kids and youth club where the little ones are entertained throughout the day.
With Egypt being usually a very hot weather destination, I loved the evening chills at the beach club bar with comfy lounge seats by the beach and music. You can go for a camel ride or a sunset evening boat tour and watch the sun disappearing in all shades of orange behind the mountains.
The atmosphere in Robinson Club Soma Bay is very friendly and about getting to know each other, therefore the dinner tables are always shared with other guests. Many of the guests I talked to are loyalty customers visiting Robinson Clubs frequently since years.
Some of you also asked me about safety issues in egypt. Soma bay is outside of the cities and considered a very safe area for tourists.
Robinson Club Soma Bay was a surprisingly postive experience and I would recommend this place to groups of friends, sports lovers and families who look for a casual holiday atmosphere with a good mix of activities within the hotel everyday.
