Island Hopping Greece Fourth Stop: Folegrandos

When I was in Crete last summer I met a couple from Australia who told me about a tiny island called Folegrandos that they had fallen in love with during their honeymoon trip. I got curious and was excited to visit this island as the fourth stop of our Greece island hopping trip for Discover Greece. We took a ferry from Milos to Folegrandos with Seajets which took only 55 minutes.

Folegrandos is the smallest island we visited, being only 13 km long with 700 inhabitants. The island is a place of untouched landscapes and calm beaches where time stands still.

We stayed at Vrahos Boutique hotel which is a cute hotel with 29 modern rooms, the highlight being the communal terrace with pool overlooking the port, which is a nice spot to have a drink and enjoy the sunset.

Folegrandos has several beaches like Agali beach, Agios Nikolaus or Katergo that can be reached by car or boat. When visiting Agios Nikolaos make sure to plan a lunch stop at Papalagi Taverna which has nice sea food and the best sea views.

I would recommend to get a car and explore the island and its 3 villages, Chora being the center of the island. Stroll around the cute little white alleys and go for dinner at the cozy tavernas. I reached the peak of my feta addiction in Folegrandos ordering the fried sesam feta every time we went for lunch or dinner as it was just too delicious to resist.

Make the the zic zac walk up the mountain to the white church, the landmark of Folegrandos from where you have breathtaking views over the entire island.

Folegrandos is like some kind of a mini version of Santorini, having the all white houses along the cliffside and the breathtaking mountain views. Even though Folegrandos has lots of visitors during the summer months, it is very local and calm with no nightlife or entertainment.

Therefore you will love the island when you are looking for a place to unwind from the stress of the city life far away from tourists.

As the island is very small I would recommend visiting Folegrandos for a few days and combine the trip with some other islands around for the perfect mix of relaxation and activities.
